Four verbs for cooking

Firstly. bring the water to a boil, then mix the eggs with potatoes and the rest of the ingredients. Secondly, set aside the mixture to cool. Finally, you can enjoy eating it.

Bring to: to cause, result in, produce a state or condition

  • Bring something to the boil: Bring the water to the boil (=make it start boiling). 
  • Bring something to an end: She suddenly brought the interview to an end. 
  • Bring tears to someone’s eyes: Her tragic story brought tears to my eyes (= made me cry).

Mix: to (cause different substances to) combine so that the result cannot easily be separated into its parts:

  • The flour was mixed up with eggs in a large bowl.

Set aside: to save for a particular purpose

  • After adding the milk powder, mix them in with a mixer.

Cool down: to become or cause something to become slightly colder.

  • Set aside the cake to cool down for an hour before cutting it.
